At the heart of Jumpstart Refugee Talent is a community of individuals driven by resilience, compassion, and a commitment to empowering newcomers. One such individual is Melissa Benjamin, one of Jumpstart’s board members, whose personal journey and professional dedication exemplify the spirit of the organization.

Melissa Benjamin is the Interim COO and VP of People at Change.org. Melissa first interacted with Jumpstart in the early days while she was working as a Project Director with UNICEF’s Refugees Welcome programs. Having spent her career working at the intersection of social impact, business and HR, Melissa brings operational expertise to the board alongside her passion for recruitment and job placement more broadly.

Joining Jumpstart’s board

Is a culmination of years of championing Jumpstart’s work. “I spent many years being an advisor and thought partner to Mustafa and the team, and see becoming a board member as an opportunity to make it official! My hope is that I can help the team build the organization for the future – ensuring we are responsible stewards of resources, that we have a strong strategic vision, and are ourselves a great place to work.”

“Refugee talent” to me

Has always been about recognizing the vast impact refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants broadly contribute to the economies of the countries they land in. I feel deeply passionate about what refugee talent can offer to organizations in terms of their deep knowledge and expertise, and their lived experiences. My hope is that Jumpstart can facilitate meaningful relationships and employment for all refugees seeking opportunities!
