For Aisha, entrepreneurship was never part of the plan. A trained dentist, she arrived in Canada from Egypt in December 2023 with dreams of restarting her career. But when she saw her mother struggling to continue the chocolate business she had built with love and dedication, Aisha knew she had to step in. Today, she is helping transform Manal’s Chocolate into a thriving venture, bringing handcrafted, artisanal treats to chocolate lovers in Canada.
From Saudi Arabia to Canada
Aisha’s mother, Manal, first started her chocolate business in Saudi Arabia in 2018. What began as a home-based venture quickly gained recognition for its unique flavours and handcrafted fillings. However, moving to Canada brought unexpected challenges. Isolated from her community and facing language barriers, Manal felt discouraged, even considering shutting down the business.
But Aisha refused to let that happen. “This is what she loves. It’s her passion. I knew she had to keep going,” she says. Determined to help, Aisha put her own career aspirations on hold and immersed herself in learning the ins and outs of business.
A Family Business Rooted in Passion
Manal’s Chocolate is more than just a business—it’s an art form. Unlike many chocolatiers who source fillings from suppliers, Manal insists on crafting her own. From pistachio-infused jams to exotic fruit blends, each piece is a reflection of her creativity and dedication.
One of their signature creations, the Open Cup, reimagines the traditional chocolate box experience. Instead of the usual guessing game, where customers bite into chocolates hoping for the right flavour, the Open Cup design showcases the filling on top. “No more surprises—just pure, intentional indulgence,” Aisha explains.
Growing a Community of Chocolate Lovers
With support from the New Venture program at the Syrian Canadian Foundation, Aisha has gained valuable business skills, helping to scale Manal’s Chocolate to new heights. They now sell through festivals, events, and online, building a loyal customer base that appreciates their handmade, high-quality chocolates.
Their journey hasn’t been easy, but Aisha sees their success as proof that hard work and resilience pay off. “Every newcomer faces challenges, but if you believe in yourself and ask for help, you’ll find your way.”
Looking Ahead
Aisha and Manal dream of opening their own chocolate boutique, a space where people can not only buy chocolates but also experience the artistry behind them. They’re also working on expanding into corporate gifting and event catering, with hopes of one day shipping across Canada and beyond.
For now, they continue perfecting their craft, one chocolate at a time. “This isn’t just a business,” Aisha says with a smile. “It’s a story of perseverance, love, and sweet new beginnings.”
