Event will share best practices and success strategies for integrating refugees into workplace

TORONTO, ONT. June 18, 2024 — Jumpstart Refugee Talent, the Canadian, refugee-led nonprofit that matches refugees with employers, announced today a new initiative aimed at fostering economic inclusion for refugees through a panel event. The virtual event, titled “Enhancing Refugee Economic Inclusion: Best Practices and Success Strategies,” will be held on June 19, 2024, from 3:00 – 4:30 pm EDT via Zoom Webinar.

“This event is an excellent opportunity for key stakeholders to share how to overcome barriers and biases in hiring refugees and how to create a more inclusive workplace culture,” says Dawit Demoz, Program Manager, Community Relations with Jumpstart Refugee Talent. “We timed this event in light of Worl Refugee Day, but the topics discussed as they related to the challenges and opportunities in hiring refugee talent remain pertinent all year round.”

The 90-minute virtual event will be moderated by Dawit and includes four guest speakers:

  • Artem Kovalets, Human Resource Professional, Angus Management Consulting
  • Laura Soria, Senior Director, CIBC
  • Caroline Owashaba, Newcomer Professional (Nonprofits)
  • Fabio Crespin, Senior Manager of Inclusive Employment | United Way Greater Toronto (UWGT)

Panelists will address a range of topics related to refugees and employment, including the most common misconceptions and challenges refugees face when entering the workforce; the role of funding and support organizations in facilitating integration of refugees into the workforce; strategies for employers to overcome barriers in hiring practices; how to measure the impacts of refugee contributions; and much more.
