Jumpstart Refugee Talent and Canoo App Join Forces

Partnership to support new Canadian refugees looking for meaningful employment opportunities

TORONTO, ONTARIO  May 8, 2024 — Jumpstart Refugee Talent and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) have recently joined forces in partnership. The ICC offers programs and special projects that inspire inclusion, celebrate newcomers, and encourage active citizenship. One such program is Canoo, a mobile app that gives new citizens and new permanent residents in Canada free access to over 2000 of Canada’s best experiences, exclusive deals from Canada’s biggest brands, VIP cultural access, and discounted tickets to the biggest events in the country.  

“There are many pathways to becoming a Canadian citizen, and the journey often starts with a refugee claim,” says Daniel Bernhard, CEO of the ICC. “It’s crucial for Canada that refugees have positive early experiences here, so they are set up for success long-term. Jumpstart is doing amazing, innovative work to help refugees establish themselves successfully, and it just makes sense for us to work together towards our shared ambition.”

Canoo membership is available for free to newcomers who received a Canadian Permanent Resident card within the past 5 years or who received their Canadian Citizenship within the past year.  For Jumpstart, this partnership is a key way of expanding the reach and facilitating the economic integration of new refugee clients through any of their programs.

“There are thousands of new refugees in Canada that can benefit from our services,” says Rand Al Jammal, Jumpstart Director, Programs and Strategy. “We are looking forward to this opportunity of working with Canoo to ensure that we can have maximum reach and impact through our services.”
