Jumpstart turns ten in 2026, and we are starting our milestone year by revisiting where it all began: Welcome Talent Canada (WTC) Mentorship

Our mentorship program began changing lives a decade ago and still thrives today because it meets a real need: refugee professionals’ benefit from someone in their field who can provide the guidance, resources, and connections support navigating the workforce in Canada, and Canadian professionals want meaningful ways to share their expertise.

The Welcome Talent Canada Mentorship program creates a mutually beneficial opportunity: a refugee professional learns how to bridge their career into Canada with support from someone in their field, and the mentor gains meaningful coaching and leadership experience and the chance to expand their global perspective.

Guiding, learning, and growing together the power of mentorship in action.

Jumpstart keeps it simple:

  1. We match mentees with mentors in their specific industry
(We are always looking to grow new fields. Tell us your background!)
  2. We give both people a clear structure
Suggested topics, a timeline, and a roadmap make it easy to know what to cover.
  3. Meetings are short and predictable
The program is 4 months, 12 hours total. Most pairs meet every couple of weeks for under an hour.
  4. We support the match the whole way through
So neither side ever feels unsure about what to do next.

After a decade of growth, mentorship remains one of the simplest and most powerful ways to support newly arrived refugee professionals with career readiness and network expansion. The program is one of the most meaningful ways for Canadian professionals to make a real impact. And Canada’s workforce is stronger because of it.
