Jumpstart Refugee Talent is a refugee led charitable organization and the only national organization exclusively serving refugees seeking meaningful economic inclusion. Founded in 2016, we focus on the economic empowerment of refugees, refugee claimants and forcibly displaced persons settling in Canada by facilitating meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.  Jumpstart serves refugees from all backgrounds across Canada and works to address underemployment, economic inclusion. Jumpstart also champions refugee labour mobility and supports globally displaced people in accessing economic pathways and providing them with durable solutions.

Role Overview:
Jumpstart Refugee Talent is on a growth trajectory, expanding its economic mobility team. We’re actively scouting for a dedicated individual to helm our Latin America initiative. This essential role focuses on fostering and strengthening collaborations with NGOs throughout Latin America. The main objective is to facilitate a steady referral of candidates to our program from these partner organizations, ensuring a continuous flow of qualified and diverse candidates in line with the opportunities provided from the employer engagement team. Integral to this role is liaising with strategic allies, including the likes of UNHCR. The position demands a unique blend of business development prowess, adept partnership management, impeccable communication skills, and profound empathy for the refugee community. The role reports into the Director, Economic Mobility.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Establish new collaborations and cultivate existing ones with international NGOs throughout Latin America, ensuring a consistent and appropriate stream of candidates that can be connected with job opportunities across Canada
  • Collaborate closely with the employer engagement team in Canada to align candidate referrals with active opportunities
  • Work closely with partner NGOs to ensure candidates have the support needed to prepare for job interviews and relocation
  • Play an active role in driving the Latin America sourcing strategy
  • Represent Jumpstart Refugee Talent in conferences and external events
  • Participate and lend expertise to special projects as and when necessary

 Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated expertise in partnership cultivation, stakeholder management, and business development
  • Some understanding of recruitment dynamics and the ability to align them with the specific needs of diverse stakeholders
  • Fluent in Spanish and good English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Genuine empathy towards the refugee community, and a commitment to furthering their socio-economic empowerment
  • Capability to navigate and collaborate within complex multi-stakeholder environments, fostering synergies and mutual understanding

Desirable Experience:

  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Slack and Teams
  • Background in human resource management or talent recruitment.
  • Familiarity with Canada’s immigration framework and/or labour mobility

Resume Specialist, Canada (Virtual)

Jumpstart Refugee Talent is a refugee-led non-profit organization with offices in Toronto, Kitchener, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary and the only national organization exclusively serving refugees seeking meaningful economic opportunities. Founded in 2016, we focus on the economic empowerment of newly settled refugees in Canada by facilitating meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

About the Volunteer Role: 

Jumpstart is looking for 2 Resume Specialists to support refugee clients in re-writing their resumes so they are employer-friendly and in the North American standard. Resumes are critically important in a refugee’s career journey. They ensure a refugee’s expertise is well communicated to employers, making it less likely they are screened out and more likely they will be considered for meaningful employment opportunities.

Our team has rewritten 500+ resumes, however with hundreds of refugees arriving from Afghanistan in 2022 we need your support! We provide our volunteers with everything they need to work with clients one-on-one to rebuild their resumes:

  • A proven resume-building methodology
  • An online resume builder tool
  • A Jumpstart email and phone number (to safeguard your privacy)
  • We pre-schedule appointments with refugee clients for you
  • dedicated staff person to support your work

Volunteer commitments:

  • 3 month commitment
  • 3-5 hours a week (lunch or evening hours)
  • Meeting with refugees virtually (1hr interviews) to rewrite their resumes.

About You:

  • Have a business or human resources background
  • Exceptional listening and writing skills
  • Passionate to change the world one person at a time
