Rita is a Program Manager for Jumpstart Refugee Talent. She supports the Welcome Talent Canada Mentorship program. Rita has 20+ years of experience empowering and supporting marginalized populations and people in need. She is passionate about helping others, with a strong desire to help empower women, and underprivileged groups. Rita has extensive experience working with different communities, ethnic groups, and cultures. Every project that Rita has taken part in, whether it was mobilizing Syrian refugees in Calgary to help the victims of Fort MC Murray, or feeding the homeless, or helping Canadians understand Syrian culture and people, she has always kept the well-being, inclusion, and integration of those around her in mind. Her volunteering work has been recognized internationally on CNN, BBC and in Time Magazine. She has also been the recipient of the People’s Choice Peace, and Human Rights Award. She was also selected as the Calgary Herald’s 2016’s most compelling Calgarian. Although Rita has a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from University of Damascus, Syria, her passion for social work has led her into a career in public service and motivated her to gain a diploma in Human Services. Prior to her position at Jumpstart Refugee Talent, Rita worked as a Settlement Practitioner and Certificated Financial Coach with the Centre for Newcomers for 3+.
